Growing up in Majicaur is much different from growing up in a "normal world". Grades are reorganized and school ends early, with life based around the possibility of becoming a world saving hero.Schooling starts as soon as a child can walk. Parents are eager to send their children to pre-schooling as early as possible. "Kindergarten" doesn't exist as it would in America.
At age six, children immediately start the first grade. They begin a block of education called their "Primary Schooling", which is dedicated to learning reading, mathematics, sciences, histories... essentially building a primary education. Physical Education is mandatory and there is an additional magical theory class that all students are required to pass.
Primary education ends with the 6th grade, when students are generally twelve years old. At this point, students are transferred to a specialized school. Specialty schools are where students may learn to be a knight, a magician, alchemist, archer, etc. Specialty school can last anywhere from one to five years. Instead of going up grade levels by the year, students are required to pass five tests in their specialized study. This means that a student could theoretically graduate in one year if they are skilled enough. The tests happen four times a year, once per season, and with the 1st level test first and 5th level test last. This means that if you pass the 1st level then you may technically apply and maybe pass the 2nd test the next day if you are skilled enough. You may only take 3 tests in one testing session.
Students may pick up multiple specialties, but their five tests are only school-level ranks. In order to get a "degree" and exit the mandatory school system, students participate in a yearly "Graduation Test". This is generally a traveling quest where they go on a heroic mission, similar to what you might see in a standard fantasy RPG video game.Once they've completed mandatory schooling, graduated students enter society as a Novice in their specialty. They may continue "ranking" their specialty by passing yearly ranking tests, bringing them from Novice Rank to Rank F, E, D, C, B, A, and Master. There are graduate schools that help those interested to rank up faster and train their skills, though they are not required for ranking.
You may only take on two specialties maximum when in secondary school. Once graduated, you may train as many specialties as you want. Though you cannot go back into the government run secondary school after graduation, you may enroll in "pre-graduate" schools that train you to Novice rank.
Life & Death➤
Those living in Majicaur have more than a very long life expectancy. They are able to live in cycles, blessed by their ruling god to reincarnate and be reborn frequently. Not just that, but their deaths can come frequently and be overturned. In some ways, Majicaur is really like a strange fantasy video game.
Firstly, just about everyone in Majicaur knows what the "normal" concept of life and death is. This cycle still exists in nature and is applied to "normal" people. Those that get to step outside of the cycle are heroes. Every ruling god and goddess has a different idea for what makes someone heroic enough to be pulled outside of the cycle. Every Legendary Hero is guaranteed a spot. Village elders, chefs, and important figures of authority or reason in a country will also be pulled out of the natural cycle. Becoming heavily involved in your God or Goddess' church is another way to ensure an almost eternal life. But while there are many chances for this, it does not apply to everyone.
